Cornell Users: Change Password for External User

Once you add a user to your whitelist, you can change the password at any time. You may wish to do this if you communicated the password with the external user, but he or she experiences difficulty.

  1. Login to Cornell DropBox using your Cornell NetID and Password.
  2. Navigate to the Whitelist by clicking the 'Whitelist' icon from the DropBox menu.
  3. Check the checkbox next to the user on your whitelist for whom you wish to change the password. The row will highlight in yellow.
  4. Select 'Change Password.' A popup displays with the users you selected.
  5. Set a new password, entering it twice to confirm.
  6. Click 'Save' to confirm changing the password for the external user on your whitelist.
  7. The password change is immediate. If the external user is already logged in, on their next send/download action, they will need to enter the new password.

Whitelist Password Requirements
In order to ensure strong security on passwords for external users, the following are the minimum requirements for a password.

  • be at least 7 characters long
  • include at least 3 of following: lower case, upper case, numbers, special characters/symbols
  • not be the email address, sender NetID, or other common dictionary word
